In the village of Warfield, a homeowner was grappling with the fallout of a poorly executed roofing project. The GRP flat roofing system installed by an unqualified builder had failed, leading to leaks and structural concerns. Additionally, the coping stones on the property were not only leaking due to an insufficient DPC (damp proof course) layer but also failed to meet the aesthetic expectations of the homeowner. This case study explores how we addressed these issues with precision and expertise, delivering a durable, aesthetically pleasing solution that restored the homeowner's confidence in their property.
The project involved two main tasks: rectifying a defective GRP flat roof and addressing the leaking and unattractive coping stones. The existing GRP flat roof had been installed by an unqualified builder, leading to significant performance issues. The coping stones, besides leaking due to an inadequate DPC layer, did not align with the homeowner’s desired aesthetic. Our team was tasked with providing a long-lasting solution that resolved these problems and met the homeowner's high standards.
The primary issues identified were:
The solution required a comprehensive approach to both the roofing and coping stone issues. The steps included:
Rectifying the GRP Flat Roof
The initial step was to strip away the poorly installed GRP flat roof. Once the old materials were removed, the surface was prepared for the installation of the Restec Flexitec 2020 system. This advanced GRP system was selected for its superior performance characteristics, including flexibility, durability, and UV resistance. The installation was carried out with meticulous attention to detail, ensuring that all seams were perfectly sealed and the surface was completely watertight. The new roof not only resolved the leakage issues but also provided the homeowner with a robust and reliable solution backed by a guarantee.
Addressing the Coping Stones
The coping stones presented a dual challenge: they were leaking due to an inadequate DPC layer and did not meet the homeowner's aesthetic expectations. To address these issues, the team first installed a plywood base over the existing coping stones, creating a solid foundation for the new lead capping. The Code 4 lead capping was then carefully installed, following the Lead Sheet Association guidelines to ensure maximum durability and weather resistance. This solution not only eliminated the leakage problem but also significantly improved the appearance of the coping stones, aligning with the homeowner's vision for their property.
The completion of this project resulted in a dramatic improvement in both the functionality and aesthetics of the property. The new Restec Flexitec 2020 GRP flat roofing system provided a durable, leak-free solution that will serve the homeowner for years to come. Additionally, the new Code 4 lead capping over the coping stones not only resolved the leakage issue but also enhanced the visual appeal of the property, meeting the homeowner’s high standards.
The homeowner was highly satisfied with the outcome, particularly appreciating the attention to detail and the quality of the materials used. The project was completed on time and within budget, further reinforcing the homeowner's confidence in our team’s ability to deliver exceptional results.
